Toronto
Toronto is shaping up into a pretty nice city. It's bidding for the 2008 Olympics but I doubt it will win. I guess because I grew up here, it's not at the top of my list. It is a great place to visit and as an added bonus Niagara Falls is nearby. Even though I've been to Niagara 20 times in the past 2 years! Awwwwww!!! It's still a nice place.
Foodwise, Toronto must have the most authentic and the widest variety of ethnic food.
My favorites include:
Middle Eastern (try Jerusalem Restaurant on Eglinton & Bathurst)
Greek (try Astoria Shishkabob, on the Danforth i.e. Greek town)
Indian - try any palace with an lunch buffet for about $8
Korean - try Korean town on Bloor. Kalbi is my favorite or bim bim bop
Vietnamese - Try Pho 88 in Chinatown for beef noodle soup $4.50
Chinese - try millions of place but in suburbs of Scarborough and Richmond Hill,
Downtown chinatown is too touristy and has become more of a
Vietnamese town
Veal Sandwich - try huge veal & eggplant sandwich at Moustache at lower level of St. ' Lawrence Mkt. Also California Sandwiches make a good one.
For a good steak you can't resist the KEG mansion. or Le Beftiki
Italian - try Rocco Plum Tomatoes - huge portions of meat & pasta.
- Great lunch buffet at Il Finellos $8 with mussel, & pizza etc.
Some great events if you can coincide with your visit is to come when the Caribana festival is on ( 3rd largest Mardi Gra). Ya mannnnn , from de islands.
Usually the 1st week of Aug.
The Gay pride parade is also fun. Over 1 million spectators come out to each of these events. You will see some strange things here. Even if you're straight, come out!
I personally like the wine country of the Niagara region. FREE Wine tasting!!!
Great place for lunch is at the Vineland Estate winery. Great gourmet meal in a perfect setting surrounded by vineyards. Also try the famous Ontario ICE WINE.
Off the beaten track would led you to Ellora Gorge. Beautiful place for hiking. It's near the city of Waterloo. You might run into a Mennonite on their horse & buggy. There is a large settlement of these people in the Waterloo/Guelph region.
